Hello everyone. Thank you for being patient with me. I know you all are wondering how things are going. Ok, so before I make you wait any longer, surgery has started and all is going good so far.
We woke up at about 6:15 to a nurse who said the team is almost ready for Kayla. We got her up on a nice comfy gurney and rolled her down to the pre-op room.
We met with the anesthesiologist and the team who would be taking care of our baby for the next 9 or so hours. All of them were SO sweet. Most had kids and made us feel so comfortable with Kayla in their care. They assured us that they would take care and be gentle with her and treat her like she was their own child. They said, "we are going to just borrow her for a little bit. She will be ours for just a little while and very soon she can be yours again... but all better". I sighed and thanked them for telling us what we really needed to hear. I felt that the entire team seemed kind, considerate, bright and totally ready!
Dr. Gupta came in to meet with us and also his wing man Dr. Agusta. We really liked him too by the way! What a NICE man! Kayla told Dr. Gupta that she had made a necklace last night with an oval spot for a picture. She asked if he would take a picture with her so that she could keep that picture and remember who made her all better. He smiled and happily obliged. It is funny b/c as we look at the picture right now, you can see that he is in heavy concentration... but his eyes are smiling.
It's now 12:30. We have been getting updates every hour. So far everything is going great. We are expecting that things will be wrapping up at around 4:00. She will spend 2-3 days in the PICU. (pediatric ICU). We just can't wait to hear her talk to us so we know that she is still the same little girl we said good night to a few hours ago. We are really doing ok considering. I thought it would be a lot harder. It's a long wait, but as long as we don't think about what is going on in there, we are good.
I'm sure once things end and we get up to the PICU it is going to be busy making sure her every need is met. I will do my best to at least do a very quick update so you all know she is out of surgery and recovering. Again, we can't thank you enough for all of your encouragement & prayers. Love you all!
Rushed home from work to see your update! Kayla looks incredible, I swear I have rarely seen that dear sweet girl frown, but what an awesome job the "mamma bears" have done to prepare her mentally for this procedure. You amaze me! Tell Zan I expect sewing lessons LOL LOL! What a wonderful team of doctors, they said similar to me before Matt's surgery at 6months, but I certainly did not have your composure or patience. I love you all Jayna
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute what she said to the DR. Wow, what an amazing child. And she looks so excited to feel better. Most kids would be a wreck. Most moms too. She must get it her positivity from you. I could sure learn from the both of you to be more positive.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update Annie. So pleased to hear things are going well with the surgery and that you and Denny are holding it together. You are all amazing. Who would ever know that she's headed in for surgery when looking at the pictures. Such a great little spirit! xoxo, Chuck and Pam
ReplyDeleteThank you for updating us, Annie. Absolutely love seeing the smile on Kayla face, she is so amazing, brave, and sweet. You and Den are awesome for being so strong as well. So proud of all of you!
